Get to work via the Green Line, or a bus to the Green Line.

There is a big supermarket at the JFK/UMass stop.

Get to work via the Orange Line.

Cambridge

Central Square

Get to work via the Red Line. Central Square has LOTS to do - bars, clubs, restaurants. I wouldn't live right by the T stop, though.

Davis Square

Get to work via the Red Line.

Harvard Square

Get to work via the Red Line.

Porter Square

Get to work via the Red Line.

Porter square rules. Big shopping center right at the T stop with a 24-hour Shaw's. It's big enough to have lots to do, very convenient to walk to Davis, and pretty quiet. The downside is that rents are somewhat expensive here.

Newton

Newton Centre

Get to work via the D line.

Newton Corner

Get to work via the 553/554 or 504 express buses.

Newton Highlands

Get to work via the D line.

Newtonville

Get to work via the Framingham/Worcester commuter train, or the 554/553 express bus.

West Newton

Get to work via the Framingham/Worcester commuter train (or I think the 554/553 express bus but not positive).

Watertown

Might be places near Watertown Square, which has the 71 bus that goes to Harvard, where you can change to the Red Line. Or, might be walking distance to Newton Corner, where you can get the buses listed above.
